I used to think that preppy meant boring. You know, like Bitsy and Bob dressed from head to toe in their matching tennis outfits and cardigans tied perfectly around their shoulders. We really owe a big thank you to J Crew for reinventing preppy. I love what they’ve done to mix bold colors and patterns, and really turn preppy upside down (in a good way). Here’s a look inspired by that, although funny enough, none of the pieces are actually from J Crew.
P.S. If you’re a J Crew aficionado like my friend Char, then you need to check out her blog jenesaisChar.

In honor of Throwback Thursday, I’m giving a nod to my ole pal Mickey Mouse. Ah, yeah!
When I was kid, I won a Mickey Mouse plush doll at Disneyland, but my mom gave it to my cousin in Taiwan since she was obsessed with Mickey and never had a chance to go to the park. I was crushed, but sucked it up since I was a nice kid. So, when I was Urban Outfitters a few years back and spotted this tee from a distance, it was like it was meant to be. It’s like Mickey Mouse meets psychedelic, rock and roll. To complete the vintage look, I even threw on some Van’s. I’m not trying to perpetuate the stereotype that all Asians throw up peace signs when taking photos, but I kind of am. I am embracing it and just having fun with it. How can you not? It’s Mickey!
NOTE: It’s really hard to wink gracefully. Here’s my best attempt at it.
Kim Kardashian has some! No, not THAT kind of booty….I’m taking about booties, as in shoes. As much as I’m in denial that summer is officially over and fall is upon us, at least there are cute shoes to look forward to…like the latest booties trend. Cute with skirts, tight jeans, or even shorts…I’m all over it. Here are a few of my favorite picks….
Oh, no you didn’t! Oh, yes I did. I’m flashing my whites after Labor Day. Gasp!
I did a bit of research to get to the bottom of why you’re not supposed to wear white after Labor Day. After pouring over site after site, I came to the conclusion that it’s dumb. The only reason that made a bit of sense was that white clothes would get dirty due to the elements (rain, snow, mud, etc.). This is true, but since I live in SF and our Indian Summers usually start in August and end in October…I have a few months before the bad weather kick in. So, I’m going to continue to strut my whites and love every moment of it.

I’m the former. In elementary school, I had a polka dot navy blue and white Gap skort that I still dream about. Good thing polkas are “in” again. Double yeah! I was at the Gap this weekend and stumbled across this button down. Looks fab with my other pieces: J Crew cardigan | Madewell white pants. Bottom: Madewell bright green cords.
I’m pretty sure I wore an outfit similar to this in 1992..except instead of red skinnies, I had on baggy red jeans (Kris Kross style). It’s funny how fashion always comes full circle. One pattern that never goes out of style is stripes. I LOVE LOVE LOVE stripes. I am a firm believer that every stripe is created differently, so that’s why half my closet is some variation of a stripe. Check out the stripe on stripe action below. Kate Spade canvas cross-body is to die for!
