Birthday Bowling

I went to a birthday party this past weekend at Lucky Strike Bowling and it was so much fun! It took me back to my days as a kid where sleepovers, getting my ears pierced, and boy crushes consumed my life. I’ve recently noticed a trend in birthday parties. I think you hit your late 20’s, early 30’s and you start to yearn for a simpler time…so thus, birthday parties themed around activities of your past time….kickball, piñatas in the park, go-kart racing. All taken up a notch or 2 with adult beverages, of course. 🙂

Hipster night out

I’m not a hipster, but I do have hipster tendencies.  Like the other night, we decided to hit up a local bar called Phone Booth, a total hipster bar.  Think red lights, smoke filled room, Barbie chandelier hanging from the ceiling (see eery red pix below), and a jukebox jiving in the corner.  The happy ending?  A late night burrito filled with guacamole and carnitas. 🙂

Collar me happy!

If you’ve flipped through the latest fashion mags, then you know that it’s all about the collar. I’m obsessed! These whimsy plays off the adorable Peter Pan collar make me happy, thus the title! Whether it’s in the form of a necklace, a knit shirt, or a button down, I love ’em all. Mix and match ’em up to your heart’s delight! Here’s one that I found at my local H&M with subtle black beads that sparkle in the light. Eeee! Collar me happy!

P.S. Don’t be shy! Go ahead and ‘like’ the post if you like it…or ‘comment’ if you have comment.

Animal prints: See me ROAR

Literally…do you see me roar?  Top left.  That’s me roaring.  I’m roaring while wearing a cheetah print tank styled with grey animal print jeggings.  I was little hesitant doing animal on animal, but sometimes you just need to embrace it and go full throttle.  ROAR.

Sound of Music Sing-a-long. Jealous?

Don’t be jealous, but this weekend I was at the Hollywood Bowl at the Sound of Music Sing-a-long!  My mom is obsessed with Julie Andrews, so growing up my sis and I spent countless hours watching VHS taped versions of Mary Poppins…and of course Sound of Music.  2 hours and 45 minutes of belting out tunes and reliving the magic of the von Trapp family.  From the hills are alive with the sound of music… do you solve a problem like Maria…to I am 16 going on 17…to Edelweiss…So long, farewell.  Mom was singing at the top of her lungs, while I was preserving an already hoarse voice by compensating with my amazing chair dancing skillz.  Even old pops managed to squeak out a few notes.  Fun times!

Tried out the new iPhone panorama setting.  Not bad for a night shot!

If you know me, then you know that I love a good sweet and savory combo….like this salted caramel apple recipe that looks OMFG so good! I try not to bake because I have a sweet tooth, but no willpower- deadly combo. I might have to break down for this one!

omfg. so good.

Move over pumpkin spice, there’s another fall flavor in town. And his name is Salted Caramel Apple.

I grew up in Upstate NY where apples are serious business. When I was a kid, every weekend during Fall, we would go to the local produce grower and load up bushel baskets with freshly picked McIntosh, Red and Golden Delicious, sample freshly pressed cider and DROOL over the hand-dipped caramel apples. Good old fashioned, tart Granny Smiths dipped in warm, gooey caramel then rolled in crushed salted peanuts.

Delfina Pizzeria: A slice of heaven

Hi Delfina Pizzeria.  I love you and your pizzas.  I’ve tasted a lot of pizzas in my time and you’re my favorite….to quote the movie Mystic Pizza: “A slice of heaven.”

OK, kinda creepy that I’m writing a love letter to a pizza joint, but it’s THAT good.  Delfina Pizzeria (not to be confused with the actual Delfina restaurant, which doesn’t serve pizza) is an SF classic.  Yes, you’ll probably have to wait in line, but it’s worth it.  So what’s the hype about? Well, as a pizza connoisseur, I rate all pizzas based on these criteria:  1) crust 2) sauce 3) cheese ratio….Delfina scores high on all 3.   The Neopolitan inspired thin-crust pizzas comes piping hot out of the wood-fired oven…good texture: doughy, but crispy and airy at the same time.  The sauce is the right amount of tanginess and thickness…and pairs nicely with the mozzarella cheese, which is in perfect ratio with the rest of the ingredients.  Am I making you drool yet?  My go-to’s are the Margherita and Salsiccia (fennel sausage), which I highly recommend.

If you’re impatient (like me) and don’t like to wait in line, then I’d suggest phoning in an order and picking it up (usually takes 15 minutes).  They don’t deliver, but if it’s a nice day, you can picnic in Dolores Park (a block away) with your pizza and make a day of it!

The anti-skinny jean is making a comeback

I love a good skinny as much as the next gal, but for those that have been cursing them…I’m predicting that flare, bell-bottom jeans are making a comeback.  Hallelujah!  I rocked this look recently and totally felt hippie chic.  Not really in a flower girl kinda way with spectacles and peace signs, but more of a modern girl kinda way with confidence and sass.

San Francisco, Where art thou summer?

Anybody that’s spent time in San Francisco knows that summer is not summer. Summer feels like fall with its 60 degree weather….and fall feels a bit like summer (at least the months of September and October).  Even Mark Twain was once quoted saying: “The coldest winter I spent was a summer in San Francisco.”  If you’re thinking I’m kidding, I’m not.  Evidence?  I snapped this picture of palm trees in my neighborhood blowing in the wind.  It captures the perfect essence of an SF summer.  Still waiting for the warm temps to kick in….

Twofer Tuesdays: 1 skirt, 2 ways

Not sure where Twofer Tuesdays started, but I first heard the term from my friend’s mom Shelly, who’s always on the hunt for a good bargain.  It’s a nicer, more suave way of saying BOGO.  You’re probably wondering where I’m going with this…Well, today is your lucky day because you’re getting a Two-fer with this post:  1 skirt, 2 ways.  Enjoy!

Deets: 5/48 pink maxi skirt (Off 5th) styled 2 ways…1) Tribal vibe with lots of bangles 2) Feminine and flirty with a chunky pink H&M necklace and Caslon top
